You call that a small hole?
Our mission began at 0700 (7:00 A.M.)
We joined the one hundred aircraft en route with the main force
We were escorted by a small group of new P51-D Mustang Fighter-Bombers
Another small group of mark V Spitfires came here with the P51’s
I was so glad the Americans were here to protect us
Along with our own boys flying high above and were mostly vets
Those boys probably fought off the Jerrys (British slang for a German either serving in the Army or Air Force). Air Force AKA the Nazi’s famous Luftwaffe
We made it across the English Channel in one piece, but lost a large chuck from a collision
I think this quote best fits our situation we were going to meet up ahead
“Out of the frying pan, into the fire”-Tertullian
We made to it our bombing sight and released our bombs
I knew that the Jerrys were going to want revenge for us doing that.
I turned to my Co-Pilot and said, “Boy, we are going to lose a few bolts from the Jerry’s”
The Co-Pilot chuckled and went silent for a moment.
I looked out the window and saw a ME-109 heading straight at us
I swung the Lancaster to the left and dodged the incoming fire
Suddenly something hit the plane and I asked a question
This was the response, “Flak (An explosive shell that explodes at a designated altitude and meant for destroying planes). Shell hit, minor damage, we lost the whole front of the Betsy Shire”
“Ah, that was only a flesh wound to the Betsy Shire, start covering what you can with duct tape”
“I think we lost Scotty…I think he’s still whole…do you want me to pick up the pieces left?”
