As Empty as the Sea
The sounds of waves hitting the rocks,
the smell of salt air
the peace;
even just for a split second,
settles my worries
as the seagulls cry out
circling the sea
I remember you
as inviting as the calm waves,
coaxing me in,
time and time again
but you were no peaceful force
you revealed to me a storm,
full of warm rain and crashing waters
I let you tear me apart bit by bit,
not realizing the storm would end,
taking pieces of me with it,
only for you to disappear
and leave me waiting by the sea,
hoping for another storm

I have always stood out at my small school. I wear black nail polish, drink tea and write poetry, which is unusual for a girl in a small farming community. I wrote this piece describing the sorrow one has when losing someone or being rejected by one they want the most. A broken heart's despair inspired me to write this poem.
