Teen Aged Emotion
They like to say that love happens naturally
And pretend it really does begin
At first sight.
But I’d seen you a hundred times before
And it really did not start
Without effort.
It was your friend who got a girlfriend
And my friend who was getting engaged
That lead us to each other.
They were guilty of leaving us
To pursue a love life,
So they asked us to join the club.
We met at the movies
On a Sunday, a pure day
And we kissed under the darkness.
I had never been in love but
You had always been loved and
We were two confused teens.
I was confused about romance
You were confused about my hesitation
We were both sending mixed signals.
I told myself you were the devil
Sent only to corrupt
My empty, sinless soul.
You told yourself I was lame
But did not how true that was
Of my brittle heart.
I did not expect to miss you
Or think about you
Even after all this time.
