Blindly Flying
The eagle sees us, the people,
struck down by the hand of deception.
Its keen eyesight spots charismatic gentlemen with
shiny white teeth from miles away.
Flying overhead, it hears debates, filled with
eloquent phrasing, and
empty promises.
The eagle is not fooled--it’s been flying since our independence, but
for we the people, well, we have to believe in something.
That’s why we pretend
that the charismatic gentlemen with shiny white teeth
will deliver.
That’s why we endorse them,
and their lies-- hoping that the eagle will continue to soar.
