Drowning
Teetering on the edge and then
I’m falling for what seems like an eternity,
Until I plunge into the icy water.
No one has taught me how to swim.
No one has taught me how to swim—
So I struggle
I fight like hell,
But I just can’t swim.
I drown, I plummet into the darkest depths of the ocean.
And when I open my eyes,
I am still in fear.
I am screaming
I am fighting, but they don’t know.
So the water fills my lungs
and I drown.
If only you had taught me
Or her
Or them how to swim
We would not have
drowned.
