The Outside Feeling
The stale gravel grabs onto my sweater, as I lay there.
The sun is hitting every angle perfectly.
A rainbow above me,
and scattered clouds among
the heavens.
My house sits.
Empty.
Crickets and birds are the only thing I hear,
besdes the dropping of pinecones that make the squirrels run.
Freshly cut grass with freshly fallen leaves announce the coming of fall.
These are the days I have fallen in love with.
The bunny statue in our garden glares at me with it’s big black eyes,
my dog does the same from our living room window.
The trees stand above me.
They’ve guarded me since I was young,
held me in their branches
made the monsters turn into
nothing
at all.
A black car passes on the main road.
Another leaf graces the ground.
The clouds pass above me,
as I wonder-
who else has seen these clouds
and what shapes they saw,
as all I see is a white blanket covering the earth.
The wind blows, making the wreath on our front door sway.
I am at peace.
