Change
I watch the seasons change
from summer to fall,
slowly prepare for
a long winter’s sleep.
This change and I
are not so different:
it takes effect when no one expects;
changes colors and drifts off to sleep,
when its fiery colors are
strewn from their life source--
a barren skeleton is
all that remains.
Suffocated, the burning reds
retreat into darkness
falling through the cloudy mist.
Defeated
by the freezing air, snow
blankets the ground in a protective way,
as if trying to keep the fading grass alive,
It stays
and paints in color
if even for just a moment
if even for just a moment
