I gleam of bright silver
And my face depicts Oceanus, the great river
The chill of my metal presents a chill of death
And like an asthma attack, I take the lives of those out of breath, out on the
Battlefield

For any ordinary warrior must remain vigilant and able
And possess a vast amount of stamina
But not the greatest soldier of all fables
For I am the shield of virtuous Achilles, out on
The battlefield

Yet I am oh so very upset
Truly I must confess
For I am but a mere drum for the mighty Achilles
Who bangs on my face with the handle of his sword, out
On the battlefield

For no arrow or sword will ever pierce the man I protect
The fabled and mighty Achilles requires no defense
I am but an appendix in the body of a nearly perfect man
Who has no use for me and beats rhythms on me whenever he can
Out on the battlefield

What good is a tool that does not serve its purpose?
Simply said, the mighty warrior has no vulnerable areas I can block
I am but an instrument among obsolete implements
All that can be said towards myself is
“Behold the joke, behold the laughingstock!”
