The Abyss
There is an abyss in all of us
Some of us don't notice it
Or pretend we don't have one
Or are so good at hiding it we forget about it
But it's there in everyone
Threatening to pull us down
Into the crushing darkness
Full of monsters and old ghosts
That know exactly where it hurts most
What old scars are easiest opened
And the best new wounds to create
We all try to fight the abyss
Trying desperately to not let in cave your body in
We fill it with anything and everything
People, memories, hopes, dreams
We are all just trying to fill our own abyss
Cover it up so we don't notice it
But sometimes we step where the cover is too thin
And we fall in
And it's hard to get out
Hard to fight the darkness
And even if we can never fully fill our own abyss
We can try
Even if they are only distractions
And even if we can never truly fill the abyss
Even if we will still always have those lonely nights
Where everything in our body wants to give in to the abyss
To let the monsters tear you apart
We will hopefully all be able to leave this world
Knowing that we have filled our own abyss the best we can
And maybe help fill a few others too
