Candles Aflame
Life is a candle,
A flickering flame
Lit into existence,
Free and untame.
Living freely
burning down trees
setting things ablaze
by only a breeze.
So much depends upon
This one little wick,
Burning fiercely
‘Cause it can die quick.
This candle’s aflame, now
But not for long
It can all go away
if it doesn’t belong.
Sometimes it’s slow
Sometimes it’s quick
but it will burn out
before it can grow.
Life can be taken
in one small breath
or it can prosper
long before death.
Cherish life
Cherish happiness
For it can be gone
In eternal darkness
Forever. . .

I wrote this because many people don’t realize how lucky they are to be alive. Life can be taken from you, a close friend, or family member in an instant. My grandparents died in 2013. The last birthday my grandpa had was a Friday the 13th and my grandma died on a Friday the 13th, right before Christmas, so I think it is fitting to publish it on a Friday the 13th.
