"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
--George Bernard Shaw

When the colors turn to darkness
When the daytime turns to night
When your eyes begin to search for some distant shining light
When the shadows spread around you from your head down to your toes
When all hope seems to vanish and your friends turn into foes

Do you think
Do you wonder
Do you imagine
What would happen if you slipped away?

Into the shadows you'd fade
Until you ARE a shadow
A mourned memory
Growing more faint each hour

When the gun shoots the silver bullet...
When the flame begins to burn...
When the bottles in a row are suddenly empty...
When the knife plunges deep...

Don't go
But it's too late

If only you'd known how the light is hidden
But you can find it after a while
If only you would have known how much you'd miss the sun on your cheeks
The rain on your face
The hugs of a loved one
But now they're gone

That person who smiled at you every day-though you had never spoken- will not have somebody to smile to
That beautiful sound of music will never again be heard by your magical ears
And that perfect memory you treasured of your childhood- it is lost in the wind

Don't slip away into the darkness
Don't fade into a shadow
Don't pull the trigger, light the match, consume the pills, unsheath the blade

Please, hold on. Don't let go.

For the light is not found far away or in the distance.

The light is found in you.

A poem by me, for those of you who are beginning to let go.
