They say words don't hurt,

But I know that's just a criminal lie.

"Let it go!", "I was just kidding."

They taunt,

As if it was that easy.

These words, they sting, cut, kick, they stay and go.

These vile sounds are the harshest blow.

I brush it off, but these...

Words, they carry a knife, it cuts you, on the inside.

You bleed.

Sometimes it is easily patched, but a big enough hit and they leave a scar, a gash.

Most bleed out, die within hours.

Enough patches and you know the truth.

Words DO hurt.

They fight back and stick with you.

You can't run, they weigh you down.

Some give it back, preying on the innocent, soon you become one who spits their poison.

You spread their words, putting more weight on small lives to take the weight off your scarred heart,

You live with these scars, though they heal.

The memories and nightmares hold on and stay sealed.
