As a Team
Game time. Anticipation is the only thing
running through my head.
I walk onto the court, with a volley ball
held in my hands.
Past all my other teammates, we are all
tense and prepared for the match to start.
I stand behind the end line, ready to
serve the ball. I aim for the
back row as my target.
I look behind me and into the stands,
the crowd is huge, they’re shouting
and screaming and cheering.
My nerves take over.
The referee blows the whistle,
I raise my hand, about to toss the ball.
Staring at the target,
I swing the ball as hard as I can.
It goes straight to the back row,
and she receives it.
The crowd was as big as a whale,
I can hear every word they yell.
Clapping, shouting.
The ball comes back to me.
When I finally reach the ball,
I send a pass to the setter.
The crowd is chanting,
screaming, cheering.
Raising their voices tremendously.
The setter reaches the ball, and manages
the perfect set!
The crowd is insane now.
They went “WOO” as we played out the ball.
The outside hitter is taking her approach.
She leaps up into the air
and swings as hard as she can.
It’s a kill!
The crowd roared like a lion
Howled like a wolf,
Barked like a dog.
We did it! We won!
Our team cheers and screams of excitement.
Then, we walk off of the court.
As a team.
