One Day
one day, if I find myself alone with you,
maybe I'll finally admit how content I am
to simply sit alone with you
to match the pace of my breaths with yours
to feel you exhale on my skin
if I were bolder, I'd press my palm against yours
and carefully intertwine our fingers without second thought
holding on without worry or fear of being ripped away
one day, if I find myself falling deeper for you
maybe I'll finally admit how in love I am
and simply sit alone with you
matching the pace of my breaths with yours
to hear you admit it too

This came to mind while thinking back on an evening I spent with my boyfriend. We're both quite awkward and shy, and so I decided I wanted to write something that conveyed the way our relationship works. It's a shy love, and it's a quiet love. The kind that's scarcely spoken of, but you can always feel it. It's shakey and forgiving and promising and it's everything I've every wanted to write about.
