So close yet so far

My best friend is pretty special
She walks around with bird nests
In the deep of the hands
While I cartwheel down the street
To the point of feeling drunk
Ah, those cartwheel hangovers
My best friend is pretty weird
Together we go foraging for wild plants
Knee-deep in sinking sand
On the bank of a small lake
To clean cattail roots to eat
My best friend and I do dumb things
We crawl around the house
On our hands and knees
But sometimes we go to the extreme
From crawling to scaling a steep hill
To save the pumpkin
We have been longing for all summer
My best friend and I are pretty lazy
Wild apple trees in a forest
With no sweaters to contain them in
They were in the rowboat
So we took off our shirts
And picked the ripe apples from the tree
Both shirtless in the forest
My best friend and I love mud
Painting the watery sand
On our pretty little faces
Bathing deep in a mud bath
A pool beneath us
We do the dumbest of things
But we have so much fun
