Smile
People say one picture tells one thousand words.
And with a blink of the camera’s eye, one second
of time is captured, and will be remembered by someone,
forever.
With the click of a button, one thousand memories
are frozen in time. Like someone has stolen a giant pause
button and stopped the world from moving.
With one picture, one thousand stories can be told.
Pictures can be passed down like ancient stores and fairytales,
that we still tell today. There is something about seeing an old picture,
that makes you feel the burning fire of the past inside of you.
With just one smile, one thousand opinions of a person can be shaped,
like wet clay that will never dry, always changing with every person,
that plays with the eternally damp mud.
With just one picture, one thousand words are told.
And after one flash of the sleek raven-black camera,
the image will be remembered forever.
Once I saw a picture, one that made me remember,
what the past was like. So innocent, so tender,
like a tulip bud trying to survive through the a late winter blizzard.
The memories flooding back in with the melting snow
welcoming us to Spring.
Holding that picture close to my heart,
pulling it in, feeling that burning fire
inside of me, knowing I’ll always have the memory.
