Burning Books by Nija
Burning Books by Nija
Another Monday night
Full of disappointment
"In Life you will get nowhere"
Echoed from angry voices
You tell me I don't care
I say that isn't true
And while you raise your voice
I dream of burning books at school
No one really knows
That I may just care too much
Trying to achieve
What mother couldn't overcome
I haven't graduated
But I made it past her time
Now her burdens weigh me down
As I jog to the finish line
So my mother couldn't make it
To her sophomore year
I'll cry for you at graduation
As my grandma cheers
I'll cringe every time I cross the football field
I'll salute every high school dropout kid
When I look down from the stage
At congratulatory looks
I'll daydream about summer
When I can burn my school books
