The Dance
The curtains are gently raised,
And the crowd anxiously awaits
The beginning of something
Incredible.
Time stands still,
No one dares to make sound,
Holding their breath with
Intensity.
A lone dancer appears
Drifting onto the stage.
Careless and free
No chains to keep her
Contained.
Dancing a virtuosic piece
With pirouettes and pliés
Turns and grande jetés
Only the astonishment of the audience
Remains.
Slowly, more join in
Creating a small flurry of white.
The solo crystal is now the ensemble.
Together their power
Increases.
The unity and disconnect,
The power and weakness,
The wonder and despair,
What art arouses such feelings?
Each individual is unique,
Yet alone it cannot remain.
Together it grows into a blizzard of emotions.
Keeping all on the edges of their seat,
Enchanted
As the dancers begin to settle
In their final place,
Carving their steps in ice,
The applause erupts,
And the crystal finds her peace in the palm of my hand,
The final step of the Dance.
