Conditional Love
Can’t believe where I’ve grown up
In a city with a great reputation
Nice houses and paved streets
Not where you’ll most likely meet people like me
I could never live up to the standards
Of my parents conditional love
Never wore my hair right
My clothes were too tight
The thing about this city is
Nice houses
With molded walls
Paved streets
With cracks under the asphalt
From all the kids that were too smart for their own good
Ran away from this place
They saw more than they should
Instead of clouds
We have chem trails
Instead of praise
We have jealous stares
There’s a girl at school
Who slits her wrists?
She can’t take what they say anymore
Her parents handle it
By screaming it’s a waste
How can she do this?
Does she even think about what the other parents will say?
She couldn’t live up to their conditional love
‘And it sucks man
Because that night
She ran away
And still
To this day
Nothing has changed.
You leave these kids
Saying sorry for what they’ve grown up to be
As if it’s wrong
As if they aren’t even human beings
Just animals that you were somehow for some reason
Chose to raise
I don’t understand
Why you cause so much pain
It must be obviously evident in your mind
Your making kids want to die inside
