The Noise
What was that noise?
A growl? A shriek?
Something from a nightmare?
Echoing in the dark and
Empty school hallway.
My group runs frantically,
But as quietly as possible.
Attempting to grasp their
Breath, as it’s mainly
Being swiped by laughter.
We stop to seek a hiding
Place and the silence
Is eerie in the shadowy
Corridor. As we gather in
Our hideaways in the
Same locale, we appear
To hear the faint steps
Of the other group
Growing stronger. The
Anticipation is
Unbearable as their
Voices become so close
We wonder, why haven’t
They noticed us yet.
Torn between bolting
For it and staying.
I hear the growl once
More, this time much closer.
I run.
