Lively Dead Nights

Crickets, birds, and humans alike chirp as the day turns to dusk

The sky, deep blue with the last remaining sunlight falling in the West
Scattered stars dot the sky as muscle cars zoom by
Across and through backyards shine kitchen and livingroom lights that pierce and illuminate patches of the outside world
Great silhouettes of pine trees reach up and tag the sky
A nearby breeze pushes an old rag
Hordes of mosquitoes emerge from bushes itching for blood
A bee twitches                                                                                                    in its final moments
Dead leaves and                                                                                            weeds line the ground
A hound cuts                                                                                                        the air with a howl
I pull my cowl                                                                                                          up over my head
For the night is                                                                                              dark and filled with fear
