The Bagel
I stopped to pick up the bagel when I dropped it on the ground.
Sesame and poppy seeds scattered,
of course it landed cream cheese side down.
I clutch the bread, still radiating heat.
Turn, the bagel over and see the horror.
Hair, dirt, grass stuck to the cream cheese.
I let out a deep sigh
The bagel had so much potential,
But now it’s wasted
I shuffle to the garbage slowly
and lay the bagel to rest.
A small funeral in my kitchen.
It’s a sad, sad day for me
I open the fridge, cold air flows out.
I grab a new bagel
and pop it in the toaster.
Hopeful that this one will turn out better.
