Homes
The birds sing harmonies while I gently hum the melodies,
together we make the perfect song.
My vision is blurry but I can see the sadness that resonates in the little boy.
He sits on the broken porch, drowning himself in music as I often do,
all he wants is to mute the screaming from inside.
I would love to take his 12 year old hand,
and promise it’s going to be okay.
But I can’t make a promise that will be broken.
I want to tell him sadness goes away,
but I don’t desire to tell a lie.
So I make a wish on the flower that looks quite sad,
and I realized I took one life to save another and maybe this summer,
he will get rid of the long sleeves and bracelets,
so I can take his wrist and show him how my scars shine.
Maybe he will take out his headphones and begin to smile.
Maybe I will save a life.

I got this inspiration from a little boy who lives across from me, I have noticed that every time his parents fight he always sits on the porch. I can relate to that because when I get overwhelmed by sadness I sit outside too. I hope people realize that boys self harm too and that everyone can relate to being sad. I really wanted to get the point across that by approaching someone you can save a life.
