Memory Poem
Take us a few years back
To a place I used to call home
We were all in 4th grade
Life was grand, far as we’d known
It was summertime, mid-July I suppose
So far, the week was going great
Until I watched TV and all you could hear
Were storm warnings (not a moment late)
Normally my mother had no concerns
For thunder, lightning nor wind or rain
But tornado sirens screamed in my ears
As did the rattles of the window panes
I became paranoid about the “inevitable”
That our house would be carried away
The Weather Channel ran through safety guidelines
While I nursed my fears at bay
No spin tunnels ever did swipe though
All of Shelby Township made it to morn’
So this helped resolve my irrationality
To not have my old, small house torn
