Maroon Sweater
Things Observed:
-Faded, worn (an almost-hole in the right sleeve where my thumb wants to poke out)
-Sucks in all the sunlight, an excellent playground for shadows
-Smells of clean and new (Downy fabric softener breathes fresh life into cotton)
-Smells also (almost as an aftertaste) of home and warm, the guilty slipping from the dryer in the morning before the neighborhood stirs awake and the cookies baked while Papa keeps the TV on mute
-In the fabric against hungry fingertips: reminders of the delicious moment, the flash-specific second just before falling asleep where you tumble forever into a beautiful abyss
-The stitching pulses with thin strings of guitar music
Conclusion:
-I continue to find new hiding places in the folds
