Beginnings
Beginnings are characterized largely by hesitation.
Intense moments of blank minds and still mouths.
Breathlessness.
People crave beginnings.
We hesitated, though our bodies were close,
And our minds were made up.
I was numbly dizzy,
He wasn’t better off,
Consumed by admiration for far too long.
I don’t regret it.
I didn’t regret it the next day,
When we saw each other in the bright daylight,
And were too polite.
Or when my boyfriend approached,
And joined in the lighthearted banter.
Beginnings are also endings.
