Never Give Up
The yellow stripes quickly fade
off of the lumpy bumpy road
as I start to speed up.
Today is the day
my first 5k race with my Dad.
At this moment in time
I feel as if my legs have turned to jello
and my heart has been wrapped in rubber bands
pushing to come out.
Then suddenly I see it,
the promise land,
the rainbow streamer wrapped finish line marker,
the reason my feet are still managing to function.
I sprint,
and sprint,
and sprint with every ounce of energy left in my body.
“Click!”
The photographer takes my picture
capturing the moment.
My leg using one last force
pushing me up and over the finish line.
Heart pounding,
legs quivering,
face red as a tomato.
I did it!
I feel as if I am on top of the world,
as if I can do anything.
Never stop trying,
Never doubt yourself,
Never give up.
