Fireflies
Fireflies
In days past as a child
I ran outside in the twilight
And danced with the night sky
And sang with the fireflies.
We’d twirl and leap
Dancing to the music of the world
Then fall to the ground, laughing and smiling
And crying.
Because this night will end
Because the world cannot stay this way
Peaceful.
Happy.
Free.
Because days will fly by
Like the little firefly
And float on the wind, gone forevermore.
But for now, I twirl and leap
With joy and abandon
Wishing for things that never can be.
