You Ruined Her
She remembers when you
Burst into her room that
Night with alcohol
Stained breathe and fists
Full of anger. She remembers
The first strike you threw
On her innocent body. She
Remembers how you
Would hit her mother with
The same anger. She remembers
The night where you threw
Things around and called
Her real father in the closet crying
For him to come and get her. She
Remembers how she would
Spill something and you would
Yell and strike her back with your
Belt.
She’s trying to forget it now. It’s
Been 2 years and she still
Awakes at the sound of her door
Opening. She still flinches
When someone tries to touch her.
She is so careful with anything
She carries. She awakes at
4AM with nightmares. You still
Haunt her, even though you
Left her with broken bones and
A bruised mother. She clutches
Me tight when she hears anyone
Yell. She begs me not to leave
Her alone, even though she’s
Perfectly safe. She
Thinks that every mistake she
Makes deserves a sort
Of punishment.
You have left her long ago, but
You forgot to take the memories
Of furious fists and the
Thought of never being safe
Anywhere.
You ruined her life, forever.
