Where I'm From

I am from the bumpy stroller walks around the block,
from Gap t-shirts and sky blue overalls stained with syrup from that morning’s breakfast.
I am from a cozy home and the thick smell of smoke from a Sunday morning fire.
from the raspberry bush sweeter than honey.
I am from the house on the hill, perfect for sledding in the snowflakes.

I am from Great Grandma’s salty soup and crackers on Christmas day,
from the rainbow-colored finger paintings on the fridge.
I am from Green Bay Packer jerseys.
from building pillow and blanket forts with Nina.
I am from “Do your best, and God will do the rest.”
I am from church on Sunday, and
from hot ham and rolls after.
from sticky s'mores by a crackling fire.
from Moose lake and catching another one.
from the -5 degree January days.
  I am from those moments,
from the oak tree changing color with the weather
I am from an hourglass running out of sand and
from a stroller no long able to hold me.
