Afresh
From all the rubble
Emerges a fresh sheet,
A fresh start
A fresh beginning.
This thick sheet so stark
Shall be my savior,
Never will my thoughts waver.
This pledge taken
This oath made
On my soul
With my blood
This truth be told
That the past is not to be repeated
And this beginning is anewed.
And if the devil shall hold up the Temptation,
I shan't give in as a dog to a bone.
Say my oath once again,
I shall know what is best.
To me.
To this clearing after the tempest.
Behold!

This poem was written spontaneously on the side of one of my math notebooks. When I wrote the first couple of lines, I was thinking of quite a trivial matter - not being able to concentrate on my homework. I was thinking about working harder and getting rid of all my distractions. But as I continued, it became deeper. I began thinking of all the dreams and expectations I've ever had in my life. This poem is about embarking on a new journey. It's about finally taking the first step for what you want to do and who you want to be. It's about realizing that dreaming and loitering around won't do it, you have to actually work for what you want.
