When I'm with you

I tasked myself
With describing how I feel
About you.
When I first picked up the pencil,
I was stumped.
Where to begin?
You make me happy
Seems good,
But that
Doesn’t even scratch the surface.
When I’m around you
My heart soars,
And I feel like
One of those noble gases,
Helium in particular.
I feel so elated,
High even,
When you walk through the door.
Being with you,
Near you,
Erases years of pains,
And loneliness.
My heart skips a beat
Whenever you lean close,
And express our love
Through kind words,
Sweet caresses,
Through gifts of chocolate,
And a gentle squeeze
Whenever we hold hands.
In a room
Every other man seems ugly,
Well,
At least they would
If I were paying them any attention.
When I’m with you
Everyone else just fades away,
Nothing,
And no one
Else matters.
Your voice,
Beautiful on its own, provides comfort,
Assuring away the hurt,
And the bitter stings,
And pangs of jealousy.
You soothe my fears,
And brush away my tears,
Or make me laugh
As if I haven’t in years.
Your words fill me
With golden rays of sunshine,
Warm,
Happy,
Bright,
And healing.
I could listen to you
All day long,
And I don’t even care
How cliché that sounds.
When I’m with you
All my baggage
Feels like a string
Tied around my wrist,
Hardly even present,
And barely even felt.
I feel lighter than air,
And I could just blow away,
But at the same time
I feel grounded,
And safe.
For I know,
That you’ll always be there,
And you’ll always protect me,
Even if I don’t want you to,
It’s just nice to know
That you care enough
To try and fight my battles at all.
I feel light years away,
Yet bound in your arms,
Keeping me tethered
To this reality.
You make it hard to fall asleep,
Because for once in my life,
My realities are better than my dreams.
When I’m with you,
Butterflies doesn’t cover it,
It’s more like a million birds,
Carrying me high into the sky.
They erupt out of a volcanoes,
And take flight,
Dragging me along for the ride.
When I’m with you
I feel oddly like Jell-O,
And all at the sight of you.
It’s sometimes difficult
To even remain standing,
But I know
That if I stumble,
Or fall,
You’ll catch me,
And carry me
‘till I’m on my feet again.
I know
That you’ll hold my hair back
When I’m sick,
And wipe away every tear that falls
from any injury I get.
When I’m with you
I feel beautiful.
Your love is like maggots,
Eating away all the bad,
Decomposing the dead in me,
Leaving only the good.
Your presence
Makes me feel so alive.
I’m so sensitive
Of my being,
And yours,
As well as the distance,
Or the lack thereof,
Between us.
Sparks isn’t what I feel,
This electric energy
Is more like lightening
In a desert storm.
When I’m with you
I feel like I can climb mountains,
Cross deserts,
Fly over oceans,
Travel to fictional worlds,
And do just about anything
I put my mind to,
Limitless.
You’d encourage me all the way too,
No matter how crazy I get,
But you’d also prevent me from doing
Something life-threatening,
Or reckless.
Which is why I love you,
For whenever I’m with you
There’s a smile from ear to ear,
On your face,
And mine.
Even the thought of you
Puts a smile on my face.
When I set the pencil down
I still didn’t have much,
It didn’t quite feel like enough.
I can’t quite capture the words
To describe how I feel,
How you make me feel,
So how do I?
When I’m with you
I feel like I can be myself,
And be as crazy as I want,
And you don’t mind,
For you’re pretty crazy too.
You’re wacky,
Quirky,
And weird,
And you make me laugh.
Your smiles makes me feel all tingly,
Like I’ve been shocked,
Or electrified.
For your smile,
Even your laugh,
Is rare,
So I treasure every one.
Your eyes capture my attention,
They have unfathomable depths,
And I feel like drowning
At the emotions I sometimes see,
Other times I fly with you,
Hand in hand,
At the light in them.
Your arms
Hold me close,
And shelter me from all the storms,
Not that I didn’t get cold, and wet anyway,
But it’s the thought that counts.
You protect me from my nightmares,
And hush away my fears.
Your hands
Are worn
From battles long ago,
Tired of fighting,
But youthful,
And strong,
Able to bear weight,
And not be moved.
Your passion
Drives my own,
Your refusal to give up,
And a stubborn will,
Unyielding,
Unbending,
Until it comes to me,
Then you’re often a push-over.
Your good humor,
Even in the darkest of times,
Is a light to the world,
Though you have none.
You make me laugh,
Even when we’re both crying.
You never minded my tears,
Or my pain.
Your selflessness,
You were always willing to help others
Before yourself,
Sacrificing something’s,
All for the sake of others.
Your encouragement
helped me up,
and bade me to fight,
pursuing through life,
giving me the will,
and the strength
to carry on.
Your strength,
That you’d often let me borrow,
And let me lean on you,
Even when you were falling.
Your love helped me see,
And gave me new life,
And fueled m passions,
And gave me reason
To do what I love,
And help others,
As you helped me.
Your warmth
Makes me feel safe,
And loved,
Protected from the harshest storm,
And the bitterest cold.
When I’m with you
I catch the warm and fuzzies,
I feel driven and strong,
I can think of others before myself,
I feel light and tethered,
Protected,
Loved.
When I’m with you
I feel such a deep happiness,
But that doesn’t quite cover it,
And I can only,
And ream,
To be for you,
What you have been for me.

The author's comments:

My best friend was telling me about her boyfriend, and i felt inspired to write about a relationship. So I looked up romantic cliches on the internet, and filled in the blanks from there.
