To all my future almost-lovers
Look, I've been through this before.
More times than I would like to admit.
I am aware that you don't love me.
But please listen, it'll only take a moment.
I am trapped.
Trapped
In a world of language
Which does not work the way I want it to
And of people
Who do not see the things I want them too.
Trapped
Because my passions don't match my talents
And
My talents don't match my passions.
Trapped
Because I am unable
to vocalize myself
To make people see me.
Trapped
Because I know you'd love me
If only
I could speak
And you would listen.
Trapped
Because I have ideas
And intellect
And potential
But you divert your eyes
And keep them set
On a nicer and less blinding view.
Trapped
Because I care too much
And feel too much
And no one understands.
Trapped
Because I know you could love me
And you almost do.
Trapped
Because almost
Is not enough.
But most importantly,
Trapped
Because I think I need you
Believe you to be vital to my very being.
And one day,
When I learn
To write and speak
To yell and sing
To pursue my passions
Even where my talents may not follow
And to love completely
Without craving something in return
That day I will be free.
