There are so many things in this world I can change
I walk through the dirt, searching for a road to take
Which is right
Which is wrong
I won’t know until I go along
But I’m ready to make the jump from simply breathing to truly living
From walking to running
The path towards meaning
Because that’s all people want
To be remembered
To be loved
To have a purpose
I search your face
I don’t know what goes on when we say our goodbyes
Your words could be laced with poisonous lies
But in this moment I don’t really care
We all evade the truth, running scared
We are holding hands as we walk down the bend
It could lead to glory, or an abrupt dead end
But that is the great thing about life
You never know
All you can do is grab a map and your closest friends
And head down the path that could suddenly end
There are so many things in this world I can change
Who I surround myself with
Whether I skip or trudge
If I can push myself another nudge
But I can’t change time
We are forced to keep walking
Even if our feet ache
We can cry on the way, but we cannot stop
We stumble over pebbles, boulders, rocks
Sometimes we catch ourselves
Or sometimes our faces meet gravel
Our fate is unknown in our treacherous travels
But every scrape and bump will fade
Every tear will dry
You can still hear the dying strains of laughter etched into the sky
The destination is unimportant
As is the sun above
What matters is the light within, the person you should love
You don’t need the sun to hit you
You shine from the inside out
So while it’s true you cannot stop
You can laugh along the way
Put your arms around your loved ones and say what you need to say
Do not cry because you’re nearing the end
Smile because of how far you’ve been
Dance barefoot in the crunching leaves
Throw them in the air
Let the colors rain down on you
Getting tangled in your hair
We walk down this path
Your fingers laced in mine
Headphones in our ears
Music blaring as we let go of our fears
When we reach the stop sign, as we surely will
Keep your smile wide, you’ve climbed every hill
Be thankful for the road you walked, for it was not a prison
It was a blank canvas that you made sparkle, shine, glisten
Do not be scared of the unknown
Perhaps you wont be skin and bone
But you will be happy, I promise you this
Your soul will not wander amiss
The point of life is to live
Give all the love you can give
And the unknown will welcome you
Just like this wonderful life did
Life may be a ticking timer that we cannot put to bed
But would we really want to stay forever?
I’d rather see what lies ahead
