Trying, always trying
trying to comprehend life's entirety while bearing the luggage of our unambiguous past
trying to make sense of right and wrong when what we are told is not what we see
trying to cling desperately to a symbol of hope, a flicker of light
trying to latch onto our dreams as they slowly but leisurely slip from our weakened, mortal grasps
trying to stay afloat when we know the inevitable force of gravity will doom us ultimately
trying, always trying
trying to ignore the pain that will never leave, swallowing us whole like the dark depths of the ocean, pushing us farther and farther down until the light dancing off the surface is merely a figment of our imagination-burning,everything burning, yearning for it to return, knowing we are far too deep for an attempt at recovery
trying, always trying
trying to remain in the game as we fall away from the crowd, away from the giggles and chatter where no one can hear us cry for help or weep our sorrows as if a wall of stone was forged between us and the world- we watch it being built brick by brick, piece by piece, only standing and staring, staring and standing as we gradually diminish into nothingness, becoming one with the oblivion we hide in fear of
trying, always trying
trying to leave our footsteps behind- the ocean tide washing them away as though they were never there, laughing and taunting us, telling us to try again
trying to hold on to the tiny grains of sand before they are whisked away in the wind
trying to believe in a tomorrow though we can't even understand now
trying to see our reflection in the window though our world has clouded it with greed
trying to see the blue pastel sky though our vision has been blurred with blood splatters
trying to write a thousand words- if only we knew that one would leave us more satisfied than infinity ever could
trying to fit the word infallible when the only definition we belong under is human
trying, always trying
