There
There lies my courage.
There, my opportunity now passed.
There sits a turned over picture frame.
There, are my past mistakes.
There is my future.
There rests the chances I wish I took.
There, fades my once prominent scar.
There, thrown, is my shoe which no longer fits.
There, the spare change I should've saved.
There lies a thousand years.
There, the sleep I need to catch up on.
There is the day we met.
There is you.

This poem is a reflection on the poem "Here" by Arthur Sze . In response to his poem, "Here," I wrote "There." This poem includes Anaphora. Therefore; it uses the same word, "there" as the first word in each line. Notice the dramatic effect this gives the piece and its powerful ending. This piece was inspired by things that aren't "here," but "there," a rather vague and unknown place. There can be the future, there can be the past, or there can simply be something unknown. However, in all these instances, there does not effect your here and your now. The poem reflects someone no longer present in one's life, and they, along with many other things, such as a scar and spare change are no longer here. "There" represents a new beginning.
