different kinds of light

you were a match
the burning flame
lighting the fuse
it was beautiful

yet, the thing about beauty is it rarely lasts
all things are fleeting
the good and the bad
we only saw the shimmer and sparkle for a moment

I was a sparkler
fizzing in a display of color
brighter than the surroundings

but sparklers can only burn for so long
and a match quickly dies
in the end, both are consumed
the match killing what it loves
the sparkler killing itself

ashes to ashes
we all fall down

with a final pop
the flame went out
ruins scattered everywhere
fallout
chaos
the world is tilted on its axis

winter came
the cold days
freezing the ashes
chilling hearts
the fatal story rages on

for we are all scarred when we touch the flame
but then again, don't we love to take the risk?

yes, you broke me
then again, fire is not meant to be tamed

spring was my savior
the gentle caress of growth
warm golden sun tickling my cheeks
thawing my heart
giving me purpose

although I was ashes, I was still needed to regrow the forest
willowy grass and innocent daisies sprouting around my feet
giving me a place to stand
helping me become human

for she was my flame and you are my sunshine
the same thing in vastly different forms
flame is dangerous; the glow of warmth is essential
to rebuild what once was

I will never not love fire
there is something timeless in the danger
the thrill of getting too close
and it is fun to tease the tips of my
toes, grazing the edge of the inferno

never again will I completely give myself to the fever
for I have learned my lesson
even though fireworks are beautiful, you should not become one

the sun does not expect it to give everything you are to it
it helps you
building you back up
I think I might give myself to the sun
and maybe then I will finally forget about the scorching fire
the one I cannot love
but I cannot give up.

We often fall for the people we can't have, and lose ourselves in the process. Then we figure it out again.
