Dear Future Self,

Hopefully you’re still not writing poems because as it is now and probably will be then; you’re not very good at them. Hopefully you have graduated college that you wanted to go to and not one that was your backup to the backup. Hopefully you have gone on to do great things.

Mr. Future Self,

Hopefully you’re still having fun and haven’t lost the kid inside you. Hopefully, everything that happens isn’t too serious. Hopefully, you’re happy with everything that you have, everything that you are doing and overall you’re happy with life. Hopefully, things are “hopeful” anymore and you have everything that you will ever need.

Future Self,

Hopefully you’re in love and again have found everything you were looking for in the other woman. Hopefully you’ve maintained some of the friendships that you made in high school and you have your family to support you in what you do still. You will hopefully, have gotten a well paying job, maybe one that allows for a nicer ride than the MBTA Transportation. One that allows for a home in which someday you might have a family in, but not too soon. One that allows you to “enjoy the finer things in life.”

Dear Future Self,

Hopefully you are famous? I don’t know. Do you really still want that? Hopefully you are content with whatever status you have attained in the adult world. But knowing who I am now, you will never be content and that’s good because hopefully you still haven’t stopped working to be better and working to be the best at what you do. Hopefully you will have found a job that you’re happy doing and all that’s left now is to improve and be the best at whatever profession you ended up choosing. Hopefully you enjoy the working environment that you have ended up in and it gives you room to work your way up if you are still motivated.

Future Self,

Hopefully you still enjoy dressing well and looking the way you want to look. Hopefully you’re still into fashion and the next dope item to drop. Maybe you’ve opened a clothing store or created your own new line of clothing. Hopefully that’s still something you would love to do, on the side of your regular job.

Dear Future Self,

Hopefully you’re still you.

Sincerely,

Xavier Hincapie
