Early Existential Crisis
In seven years she might be a qualified nurse
running around the asylum with a tight lip
or maybe the bold sassy nurse that’s been stereotypically portrayed in many a tv show
She is helping to pay off her mom’s bills
seeing as her career not only pays her in thrills
but in fact in fat stacks and accomplished wills
calming all her past nervous trills
it’s possible she has the latest purse
then again why be materialistic when she can just gallivant the earth
making every success worth
the hardships birthed
by both her minimum wage working parents
and her complicated yet hardworking adolescents
And in seven years time she could be a baker
a maker or delicious tarts,
and she might even hold a masters degree in the oh so prestigious custodial arts
or God forbid she pursues a job instead of a career
because when the going gets tough
and the blueprint appears a bit rough
and she’s not only choosing for her but for people she quite loves
trying not to obliterate
the hopes and dreams they reiterate
over and over
but when she for a second declines her persistent rate
she is simply told to concentrate
when all she can do is have wild dreams
of writing sketches for SNL
or living la vida loca
and moving to new york
but all these dreams
sum up to absolutely nothing
because to them
to the people that matter to her
becoming an artist slash book critic slash anything artistic
only slashes a chance of a wealthy future
because she can not afford to suture
the gap between an educated nurse and the selfish artist within her
So she’ll settle
become the nurse and maybe after
but she knows how it all goes
so despite her tangent on being what she could not
she will put off her artistic desires
live her medical life until she tires
and maybe then she’ll go for the gold
before time expires.
