the fourty-second time
The first time you abused me,
you squeezed my arm
for me to shut up.
You apologized a million times.
The second time you abused me,
you split my lip open and blood dripped on my new dress.
You told me it would never happen again.
The fourty-second time you abused me,
I had a bruise on my shoulder for six weeks.
This time I apologized a million times,
I told you it would never happen again.
Four months later,
I apologize to myself for staying,
It will never happen again,
I am free.
