A Caged Bird's Confession
We are all singing birds
I know why we sing
We sing for things we can not see
For winds unridden
We sing to be free
Knowing eventually that we’ll stand on the grave of dreams
We caged birds open or throats to scream
We scream and sing for a newly born sun
Something long withheld
Our wings are clipped, are feet are tied, yet we’re always on the the run
Why do we remained caged
Why are we not free
Birds of a feather belong together
But, a bird does not sing because it has an answer
It sings because it has a song

I felt inspired by Maya Angelou's Caged Bird and wanted to write something about how I felt about the poem. As a teenager, especially as an African-American teen, I sorta feel as if I'm trapped and expected to act a certain way that I don't want to act. I hope that anyone who reads this can relate and know that they're not alone.
