As I Stand in the Middle of the Street
This is not what I asked for
This is not a great life
Have you seen my friend Zack?
I think he died in war
I look towards the sky
The grey ash covers my eyes
He won’t find his way back
Maybe the flames caught his eye
He was carrying a gas pipe
When i saw him for the last time
All we used to be
We cannot be
Terrified everyday, I hide my face
Praying to God every single day
I'm here
You're there
Your children wear nice clothes
Mine wear fear everyday
You hug your loved ones goodbye
I hug mine truly for the last time
As I stand in the middle of the street
I do not wish to live
I do not wish to die
I capture the moment
It might be my last
Have you seen my daughter?
She is nowhere to be found
I hid my son
He wont take part in this war
He hid too well, way too far
People die everyday
My loved ones are in a better place
As I stand in the middle of the street
I do not wish to live
I do not wish to die
I capture the moment
It might be my last
It all happens too quickly
It was all very dark
There is my daughter
that beautiful smile
I’ve found my son
Not scared anymore
We reach up, with no end and no God
I stand there with them hand by hand
As we walk towards my friend Zack

I wrote this poem after seeing a picture of a young man in war.
