What I'm Made Of
Every night I look up
At the same sky
The same stars
Which bore me
The heavenly ancestors
Run in my veins, stardust filled
Blood;
Collections of supernovae
Lie deep in the cracks of my skin
Lining my lashes, dusting my cheeks with
Golden glitter- starstuff
Some call it carbon-
But I call it the sacrifice of a million
Quivering stars, exploding and dying
For my life
Their history became my future
The cosmic catastrophe
Rests deep in my bones-
The night sky
Becomes my sky
The home I will return to
The land of my ancestors
The light that guides me
The stars
Are my stars
I am a star
I am part of this universe.
