&quot; What is the point of being alive if you don&#039;t at least try to do something remarkable?&rdquo;<br /> John Greene, An Abundance of Katherines

They are everywhere
In the water I drink
In the food I eat
And in the air I breathe
They are in the dirt I trod
And they are in the trees I climb
Their faces peer out of the buildings I pass

They are everywhere
Their blood pollutes the water I drink
Their bones lie in the food I eat
Their cries echo in the wind I breathe
Their bodies lie dead in the dirt I trod
Their life lives in the trees I climb
Their faces peer out of the buildings long after the flames have devoured them

They are everywhere
But their houses I burned
So they followed me home
And engulf my existence
To make it their own

As they torture my days
And they torment my nights
I see their blood stains my hands
And their bodies in my closet
Their death lives in my heart
Their souls live in my mind
But their faces still stare back at me all of the time

They were everywhere
But now they are not
They are in my head only
As well as my heart
But long ago
In a land so far away
They were everywhere
But now here they stay

I will join them shortly
As only I must
The mothers and brothers
I’ve turned them to dust
My life has no meaning
My heart has no beat
They’d take that all with them
As soon as we’d meet

They were and are everywhere
As only I know
Goodbye tomorrow
Goodbye old foe
