The Masquerade
A new dawn brings new faces
I am filled with hope
Perhaps this time I will find some who
are true friends, who
perservere through tribulations
I stare at their lifelike masks that reflect
the same brilliance of the dawn
My hopes seem to have been realized
But in midday's heat
The masks are removed
I witnessed this ritual
that was intended to be secret
I gazed upon truth
bittersweet truth
Night is now drawing near
Without the dawn's radiance
the masks have lost their luster
The masquerade has lost its shine
