Sickness is Delightful
Oh child, do not let tears fall, for sickness is delightful,
The lonely mother is destroyed as she watches
Her younger son ask what is wrong
Do not let tears fall.
Sickness is delightful.
Monitors beeping, insulin flowing
The soul of a little one is hiding
Behind a clear cannula and a breathing tube.
The child is fighting an extensive battle
That will end with one side standing
Triumphantly until the very end.
Oh father, do not let tears fall, for sickness is delightful.
Your child hasn’t eaten in days,
But they try to force a smile
Do not let tears fall.
Sickness is delightful.
At long last, the family is all together.
Mother and father are joining hands
But they are sobbing loudly
As the monitor that once had life
Falls silent
In front of their very eyes.
The silent pain from the family
Falls of the cold body of their child.
Do not let tears fall.
Sickness is delightful!

This is a piece that I wrote imitating Stephen Crane's poem War is Kind. It is a satirical poem about sickness and disease.
