Walks Never Taken
Promised walks never taken
are what I regretted most,
as I held your hand
afraid to let you go.
I pushed you up the hill
the last time you went outside,
so you could hear the cardinals chirp
and smell the flowers one last time.
You said there was nothing to be afraid of
and told me not to cry.
You'll always be watching over me,
singing me lullabies.
I'll always be your daring
and I'll try to make you proud.
I know I'll see you someday
dancing in the clouds.
