If Only I Knew
It was 4:56am when you woke me up and dragged me to the roof.
The light was just beginning to show over the horizon.
You wouldn’t tell me why you woke me up and dragged me to the roof,
You wouldn’t tell me anything at all.
It was too dark to see your face
So I just sat beside you and watched the sun rise.
It was nothing spectacular, like in the movies,
Just a dull, white color.
No life, no beauty.
I wish you would have told me
Why you woke me up and dragged me to the roof.
Because if you had,
Maybe I would have been able to save you
All those years ago.

This poem is a chilling memory. The speaker is talking about a friend or lover they once had that may have died or had just gone through awful things that the speaker did not know about until it was too late.
