The Angel
—Hideous—
—Looking up—
—They said I would meet an angel—
—An angel—
—This wasn’t—
—Couldn’t be—
—The angel—
—Lifted his head—
—Stared—
—Blue ice—
—Turned daggers—
—Watching—
—Listening—
—Looking for a sign—
—I waited—
—Wasting—
—Life—
—Tried to move—
—My feet frozen—
—Too late—
—Opened my mouth—
—To ask—
—Couldn’t speak—
—Tried to lift—
—My arm—
—To reach—
—Can’t move—
—I am hot—
—My body cold—
—Melting slowly—
—My soul lifted—
—And I am free—
—But look at my reflection—
—My angel—
—My self—
—Ugly—
—Grotesque—
—Crippled—
—Dead—

I am not an overly religious person, I do go to church sometimes, but I am not sure if I believe all the "God" talk. I do believe that there is something after death, but I am not sure what, and when you think about death at least for me the visual that immediately comes to mind is lots of white, pure, sanitary things, with beautiful white or gold wings and long white dresses, at least up top...Heaven, and when I think of the down below...Hell I think of read and black and rusty things, animals with horns and bat wings, and probably rabies, but that is not what I believe happens, that is what things are depicted as in so many books and movies, and I thought, why not meat it somewhere in the middle.
