The Super Bowl
Both teams smashing into each other
over a piece of leather.
Breath being crushed out of me like a popped balloon.
And for what? A trophy?
Will that heal my sprained knee?
Will that stop the blood coming from my nose? No.
So is it really worth playing in some “special game”?
We’re just fighting over a score
that most people forget next year.
So what? Why does it even matter? Everyone will forget that we ever played in it.
So why do I do it?
Because my team is counting on me to play in it.
And so do all of my fans.
They’ve been watching us all season
hoping for us to make it here
and we did.
So I give it my best shot.
And we end up on top.
